PV Structures were contracted to offer installation services for the delivery of car park solar panels on this project. Our team was also engaged as the Project Managers for this ambitious build. As the PV Structures team, we found ourselves working through poor ground conditions, terrible weather and trying times. Despite these challenges, we ensured that our services and part of the project were completed to the highest possible standard.
The largest Solar Car Park project in Australia
This project was completed in tandem with another Shopping Center in Elizabeth and combined we installed enough Solar Car Park Shade Structures to house approx 4.3mW solar panels. This is close to 27,000sqm of covered area, and around 420 footings! This effectively means this project is the largest similar project in the Southern hemisphere. In fact, if all the solar panels used in the project were places together they would take up 1.5 MCG’s. Now that is commercial solar panels at scale!
The beauty of a project like this is not just the shade that it provides to the shoppers of this South Australian shopping centre. It is also the fact that this project has both current and projected cost savings. This is because of the electricity generated by the solar shade structures. Solar panels and solar technologies are not new in Australia. However, the expansion of this format into more and varied spaces is. What the management of the Edwardstown Castle Plaza Centre have effectively done is used their car parks to create a solar farm which will provide dual benefit for years to come.
