Solar Car Parks Australia – Arundel Plaza Solar Car Park. Our Arundel Plaza project is a small scale solar car park project that has received significant attention. This project is a great example of a small to mid-sized solar car park in Australia. Arundel Plaza is a small local shopping centre on the Gold Coast. The centre management was looking for innovative ways to increase its solar energy generation. We were engaged by Solar Car Parks to design, engineer and fabricate the structures and by energy company Voltio to install the footings and structures.
Size and Scale of the Solar Car Park
This solar carpark contains over 350 solar panels and covers an approximate area of 590m². Consequently, it is estimated that the energy that is generated by the solar panels in this project is around 165MWh; an incredible amount of power for such a compact site. Above all, this is a testament to the precise planning and design of the supporting PV structures that we were able to maximise the power generated.
Planning and Design
Another consideration in the planning and design of this solar car park was the high wind loads of SEQ. The weather and conditions in Queensland can be brutal. Therefore this solar car park is designed and engineered to withstand the unpredictable Gold Coast weather.
Of course, the need for carpark shade in this shopping centre was high on the list of the manager’s needs. Therefore, a solar car park provided an excellent solution that meets the need for shade whilst offsetting the carbon footprint of the centre.
